The Arena brand was created by sports visionary Horst Dassler, President of Adidas France and son of the founder of Adidas. During the 1972 Munich Olympics, Dassler was present when Mark Spitz won all seven gold medals in history. Dassler, along with the rest of the world, were in ecstasy, as Splitz not only won the 7 gold medals but at the same time set 7 new world records. Knowing that Spitz had just given fans a piece of his swimming sophistication, Dassler began making plans for a company dedicated to water sports. After the Olympics, many companies applied for Spitz's endorsement, but he eventually decided to team up with Dassler to create the new brand of high-performance ARENA swimwear.
